The research group was formed on September 4, 2014 to advance the course of research in the multidisciplinary subject of Nanotechnology at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, Nigeria.
Hitherto, there seems not to be any virile research group in this area in the University. However, the University is endowed with scholars who have been trained or shown keen interests in this emerging discipline. Therefore, the pioneer members were propelled by quest to conduct meaningful research in this area, and also to train manpower, thereby putting LAUTECH in a vantage position in Nanotechnology Research in Nigeria.
The group is aimed at conducting research in the areas of synthesis, characterization, application and ecotoxicological safety evaluation of nanoparticles.
The group has drawn membership from dedicated young scholars from different Departments within the University; all with advanced training in Molecular Biology, Industrial Microbiology, Biotechnology, Nanotechnology, Toxicology, Biochemistry, Material Science and Nanofabrication. In addition, members have published good articles in reputable Journals in some aspects of Nanotechnology.
The group is aimed at contributing to the growth of the University through Research and Training, while it is poised for collaborative research involving individuals, groups, institutions and industries. The scientific meeting of the research group takes place monthly to discuss research activities within the mandate of the group.
While the pioneer members are Prof. A. Lateef, Prof. M.A. Azeez, Prof. T.A. Yekeen, Prof. T.B. Asafa, and Prof. I.C. Oladipo; the group admitted Prof. E.A. Adebayo and Prof. Y.K. Sanusi to its fold on February 12, 2016 after rigorous selection exercise.
Furthermore, Prof. M.O. Durowoju, Dr. O. Adedokun and Prof. J.A. Badmus were admitted to the group on June 23, 2016, while Dr. M.K. Awodele joined the group on September 13, 2018. Also, Prof. I.F. Bolarinwa formally joined the group on May 10, 2023, while Prof. M.A. Olamoyegun and Dr. A.A. Adewale were admitted to the group on 31 October, 2023.
This leading research group in biomimetic nanotechnology in Nigeria with track record of publications successfully organized a national "Workshop on Synthesis, Characterization and Applications of Nanoparticles" on 21-24 August, 2017.
Also in 2018, an international conference with the theme "Nanotechnology for Sustainable Development: Prospects for Africa" was held on 23-25 October, 2018, and drew more than one hundred participants from about thirty-five institutions.
Similarly, the group organized her 3rd workshop/conference on nanotechnology with the theme: Nanotechnology Applications in Africa: Opportunities and Constraints on 22-24 October, 2019. The event drew more than one hundred and fifty participants from forty-four institutions/agencies in Nigeria.
The 4th International workshop/conference on nanotechnology was held via webinar on 27-28 October, 2020. The conference with the theme 'Human Existence and Resource Utilization: Extending the Frontiers through Nanotechnology' drew about two hundred participants from ten countries in Africa, Asia and Europe.
The 5th International conference on nanotechnology was held on 26-28 October, 2021 in hybrid mode. The conference with the theme 'Nanotechnology in Africa: Changing the Narratives for the Benefits of Mankind' was attended by about one hundred and fifty participants from ten countries. At the conference, the Honourable Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu described the research group as a pride to the nation in pursuance of Nanotechnology R&D.
The 6th international conference of the group on nanotechnology was held in Abuja on 22-25 November, 2022 in collaboration with the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA). The conference with the theme 'Nanotechnology for Socio-economic Development of Africa" witnessed the participation of the Honourable minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Senator Adeleke Mamora who graced the occasion in person. He commended the partnership that brought the conference to Abuja, pledging the continuous support of the federal government to nanotechnology R&D.
We therefore warmly welcome you to the Official Page of NANO+
Our Vision
